Hi, I’m Edmund Adu Asamoah

Data & Software Engineer • Builder of reliable data platforms • Fitness enthusiast

I design and ship systems that make data dependable: pipelines that don’t flake, services that scale, and automation that shortens the distance between idea and impact. I value clarity, performance, and craft.

Quick Facts

  • Based in USA
  • Assistant Vice President (AVP)-level Data Engineering experience.
  • BSc Computer Science • MSc Big Data Technologies
  • Gym & running: discipline fuels my engineering

My Story

From Accra, Ghana → Glasgow, Scotland → USA. From small scripts to scalable platforms. Here’s the path and the principles.

I started as a curious builder who loved turning messy problems into neat systems. Over the last 4–5 years I’ve worked across data engineering and software development: designing ingestion frameworks, optimizing Spark jobs, hardening CI/CD, and getting features safely to production.

I’ve learned to value boring reliability over flashy quick fixes. I write code that’s easy to read, observable, and resilient, and I obsess over the last mile: monitoring, alerts, and documentation people actually use.

Outside work, I train. Running, lifting, and chasing that clean, sharp form. Fitness taught me the same things engineering did: progressive overload, feedback loops, and the truth that consistency beats motivation.

Challenges I’ve Faced

  • Owning legacy pipelines with missing context: I built docs, tests, and observability to de‑risk changes.
  • Balancing speed vs. safety: I introduced CI, quality gates, and rollback plans to ship confidently.
  • Scaling myself: mentoring, writing runbooks, and creating templates so teams move faster than any one person.

Wins I’m Proud Of

  • Cut multi‑hour Spark jobs down via partitioning strategy and join optimization.
  • Shipped CI/CD for data repos with tests, static checks, and automated releases.
  • Turned scattered scripts into a coherent, documented framework others could extend.

Fitness & Discipline

I run, lift, and train at least days a week. At my best, I pair morning cardio with evening weights. The goal is not just aesthetics; it is discipline. The same consistency that builds muscle builds systems: plan, execute, measure, iterate.

  • OMAD/ADF phases taught me about trade‑offs and sustainability.
  • Programming training blocks mirrors sprint planning.
  • Recovery is part of the process in code and in the gym.

Principles I Live By

  • Clarity over cleverness.
  • Make it observable.
  • Automate the boring parts.
  • Ship small, ship often.

Timeline

2025: AVP Data Engineer

Owned parts of the data platform, improved reliability and delivery speed with Scala/Spark, CI/CD, and strong observability.

2021 – 2024: Data & Software Engineering

Built ingestion frameworks, standardized configs, tuned pipelines, and mentored engineers. Hands-on across AWS, Python/Scala, and infra.

2014 - 2020: Before Foundations

BSc Computer Science (2014-2018) and MSc Big Data Technologies (2019-2020) provided the formal grounding for practical systems thinking.

What I’m Building Next

I’m doubling down on building production‑ready apps and reusable building blocks, the kind of small tools and frameworks that teams can drop into real systems to get value fast. I’m also partnering with businesses (startups and SMEs) to modernize their data platforms and internal tools. I’m open for consulting project‑based or retained advisory.

How I Can Help

  • Micro-SaaS & Internal Tools: from prototype to launch (auth, billing, deploys).
  • Data Platforms & Pipelines: Spark/Scala/Python, ingestion frameworks, quality gates.
  • CI/CD & DevOps Enablement: tests, quality checks, automated releases, observability.
  • Performance & Cost Tuning: partitioning, join strategy, storage formats, cloud cost controls.
  • Analytics Engineering: dbt modeling, documentation, reproducible environments.

Ways to Work Together

  • Consulting Sprints: 1-4 week focused engagements to ship outcomes fast.
  • Advisory: monthly retained guidance on roadmap, reviews, and hiring.
  • Build & Transfer: I build the skeleton, handover with docs and training.
  • Pilots: scoped MVPs to validate value with real users and data.
